Well it has been some time, has it not? Been away, we have, allowing the site (along with a number of other projects) to stagnate in our absence.
Such is the plight of the unmedicated bipolar, I suppose, moving and moved by the whims of brain chemistry. At one point, one can do nothing but work -- create -- to the exclusion of almost all other things. In the next moment, it seems, one may do nothing; trapped within the confines of his own mind.
Think of it as a vacation, perhaps -- a brief sojourn into lands neither longed for nor missed. Along with this return to something more akin to wakefulness comes the renewed resolve to be medicated and, one hopes, eventually stable. Of course we are self-medicating with the sort of herbal remedies available at any department store (St. John's Wort, etc.) because of a deep-seated loathing and mistrust of the pharmaceutical industry and the doctors whose pockets are lined to support it.We are completely certain that there is not a conspiracy to promote the rampant increase of psychotropic drugs being administered to children.
That's a rant for another time, however.
During this period of expansion, please stay tuned to the site and let us know what works, what doesn't, what breaks and what gets lost. As we explore the plethora of options available and experiment with the same, we will almost certainly suffer growing pains. Keep in mind that, while this process is likely to be frustrating to all involved (and both of those people know who they are) the rewards shall be great.
The goal is to get the site to a sort of "self-sustaining" state where the only behind-the-scenes work to be done is pure maintenance so that Yours Truly can concentrate on posting content (only got twenty-five years worth to get online, so far). This means that the major navigational, organizational and layout considerations are the focus of my current work. Simultaneously, I am expending efforts to improve user experience in a variety of ways: image toolkits, greater interactivity in file uploading, live checking of available usernames, installation of a spam-prevention service, tweaking the configuration of the WYSIWYG editor, creation of a variety of content types, creation of a variety of taxonomic options with the aim of a powerful and flexible sorting mechanism, to name a few.
"So what does this have to do with me," I can hear you demanding. Probably nothing. Maybe, just maybe, somebody will appreciate my efforts and make use of the site I am occasionally diligent in creating and maintaining. One must understand that my web-publishing experiences are rather limited and that, while my level of understanding of the content management system underpinning this site grows almost daily, my Drupal skills are still rather raw.
For the umpteenth time, I could really, really use a little help.
Anyhoo... got shoppin' ta do.
