The User Profile holds all of your information that you would like to share with the community and the world.  A good way to introduce yourself and get to know a bit about other members, everyone really should take the time to flesh this out.  Even Tourists get some space for self-expression here!

To get started, go to your account, click Edit and then User Profile.

This opens up a long and slightly intimidating-looking page.  Don't panic!  Most of the information is not required and some secitons should be totally ignored (for now).

From the Top

Each of the major sections of the User Profile page are collapsible (assuming your browser supports such tricks) by clicking the section title.  This way you can hide away each section as you complete it and expand the next one when you are ready for it.

About Me

Following some explanatory notes, the first section one can edit is "About Me".  It is expanded by default.  There are two sections here, the Self Portrait and Interests.

The Self Portrait is probably exactly what you think it is.  Tell us a bit about yourself.  There is no minimum or maximum, so say as much or as little as you want.  This field is public and will always be displayed on your profile.  Never share any information in a public field you are not comfortable sharing with the entire world.  Don't put your email address here, for instance, or any other personally identifiable information.

You can even put images here if you first upload them with the "File Attachments" section further down the page.  A more detailed explanation of uploads is coming soon...

Interests is where you can share what you're into.  This is not intended to be a list of stuff.  Be descriptive, please!  While we do use a lot of free tagging around the site, this isn't one of those places.  Like the Self Portrait, there is no minimum or maximum length for this field.  You may say what you want.

Bio

This section is also expanded by default.  Unlike the former fields, this section is all about brevity.  That is to say that there are limits to how much one may enter here.  Additionally, not every field will be seen by every role.

Superpower is a just for fun field.  If you could have any one (and only one) superpower, what would it be?  This field is limited to 100 characters of plain text.

The 411 is limited to 500 characters, this is the short-short version of Self Portrait, above.

Genre & Media tells the world what you do or what you like.  Also limited to 500 characters of plain text, Contributors should enter the sorts things they create and Tourists should talk about what they are looking for.  Try to be as specific as possible in the limited space provided.

Zodiac Sign is exactly that.  If you so choose, you may reveal your sign and, according to astrology, tell the community a little more about yourself.

Personal Metaphors

These are a more creative way to reveal your inner self.  Input is limited to 60 characters of plain text.  Have fun with this, but be honest!  Just complete the sentences with the first thing that comes to mind and don't think too hard about it!

No coincidence that these appear at the top of the User Profile page, these should be considered fairly important.  Why the input is so far down the page is a mystery even to us.
