Quality Control

While our members are free to create absolutely anything for which they possess the resources, talent, and inclination required, not all posts are created equal.  In other words, we have standards.  They are not overy restrictive nor do we generally seek to limit our members in any way, but we expect our members to have the maturity to post only quality content.

  • No test posts!
Unless you are a Site Architect or are assisting one, please do not create short "test" posts.  The system is working and what you create is what the end-user will see.  Content of this nature is wasteful of space and resources and is annoying to users and, more importantly, the Site Architects responsible for keeping everything organized.
Placeholders will not be considered test posts!  Sometimes the creation of what amounts to a bookmark can be helpful just to get the spark of an idea down and in he right place.  Mr.Hales does this quite a lot, actually.
  • Original content only!
If you do not own the rights to it, do not post it here!  Somebody, somewhere is hurt when people steal.  Borrowing or using without asking is stealing!  Fan art and fan fiction is okay, especially if the contributor takes the trouble to give attribution to the source.  For instance, if you write a fan fiction piece based in one of the worlds of Walt Disney, be sure to mention that, okay?  Additionally, if you alter a photograph you did not take, you need permission from the photographer before you can publicly display your derivative work.
  • No L337 5p34k!
For the uninitiated, that says, "No Leet Speak!"  The majority of users are very likely be accessing this site with a device featuring something similar to a standard 101-key keyboard with new and exciting features like vowels, a Shift-key, and a space barUse them!  This site is not an instant messaging service, nor is it a phone.  It is not appropriate (outside of texting, messaging or chat services) to use jargon such as:  btw, afaik, nalopkt, etc...  Complete sentences are the expectation, not the exception.
In other words, please practice good netiquette at all times.

Save Early, Save Often

It is the mantra of the wise.  Remember that you can edit later!  Accidents can, and do, happen.  Inadvertently pressing the wrong key combination or clicking the wrong place can take you away from the page on which you are laboring and rapidly undo everything you just did.

Always keep a copy for yourself!  In the case of textual works, one should be able to copy and paste them from another program.  Write your short story (or whatever) in your text editor of choice, and save that file to your own computer (early and often).  When you are ready to unleash your creation upon the community (and the world) you can copy your finished text over.

  • Because the exact method for copying material to, and pasting from, your computer's clipboard may vary from OS to OS and application to application, please see the documentation included with your software for more detailed information.

We cannot be held responsible for your data!  While nightly backups are performed and we do our best not to irretrievably break anything, sometimes bad things can happen to good people.  Data may be lost, corrupted or become otherwise unavailable due to service outages, "acts of god", cosmic rays, practical jokes, or Molly.

Keep in mind, also, that (depending on content type and member role) you may be able to choose not to publish content you are not ready for the world to see.

Remember:

All content is the sole responsibility of the individual contributor!  If the fine print at the bottom of every page was not notice enough, we want to be crystal clear here:  Your content is your problem.  If you are a plagiarist, a bandwidth thief, publisher of libelous statements, or any other sort of malicious miscreant, then you are on your own!

We will not defend you (or your actions) in any way, unless we believe any (or all) of the following apply the post in question:

  • Does not violate any applicable laws (including [but not limited to] copyright, obscenity, and/or defamation laws).
  • Has merit (artistic or otherwise).
  • Is being attacked due to a simple difference of opinion.

Defense, in this case, will be limited to the Webmaster's authority on this website.  We will not alter, delete, unpublish, or otherwise remove any content in question unless and until we receive a legal order to that effect.  Massive community pressure (>50% of all WW&I members) may also require intervention of the Webmaster.

Our members, and their opinions, are of far greater importance to us than societal mores or legal gray areas.  In other words, even if content is legally acceptable, the community is the final arbiter of acceptable content.
