The Great Experiment

Founded in the late 1700s, this North American nation was the first to successfully oppose the might of the British Empire.  The "New World" represented by the republic born out of the original thirteen member states was to become a beacon of hope for the oppressed around the world.

After decimating the aboriginal peoples, the nation spread across the continent and eventually claimed a large portion.  Now composed of fifty states, several islands, a few principalities, a couple colonies, and owning controlling interest in a vast number of other sovereign nations, the "Pax Americana" has become that which it originally despised:  a global empire.

Corporate State

With the government almost fully owned, part and parcel, by powerful corporate interests, the republic is beginning to show its age.  No longer the bastion of freedom, the United States is quickly sliding into fascism as corporate policy becomes law and legislators become lobbyists.

Despite large public unrest, there seems to be little real action among the populace to rectify this situation.  The vast majority continues to believe it is all "somebody else's problem" or that it is simply "the way it is."  The engineered apathy of the citizens of the United States has allowed the abuses to escalate so severely that, like a frog in a slowly-heated pot of water, they are likely to find themselves cooked alive.

The People have been defeated by a governmental system that is now operated By the Corporations and For the Corporations.  With the revolving door between high office and executive office, the government is even Of the Corporations.
