For My Friend Danny

For my friend Danny

I had a friend when I was growing up in my home town,
he was one of the more popular kids all around.
He wasn't real big and wasn't real rich,
but his mind could create things that made a cool switch.
He built his first Chopper when he was quite young,
It looked really keen and that baby could run.
His father and my father were really good friends,
you'd find them together having a beer now and then.
What I like most about Danny is his creative mind,
he's made some things you can rarely find.
With a paint gun, a torch, or a welder he's great,
he's made Bikes, and Cars that really rate.
But there's more to Danny than what his hands can do,
Danny's the type that's a true friend to you.
He's got a great sense of humor and is funny as hell.
His adventure's in life are quiet the stories to tell.
We've swapped transmissions and pulled engines together,
and had a few cold ones in Fritz's when it was bad weather.
In Seventy Nine I went in the service and moved away,
I saw Danny on Face Book just the other day.
We chatted a while and caught up with old times,
he's read my poems and says he likes my rhymes.
A couple of years ago I went to my home town,
I was sitting in T Mac's garage and heard a sweet sound,
When I looked out the door I saw the coolest Chevrolet,
Danny got out and laughed and said what do you say.
We sat and talked for a a little while,
then I left the Boys from Glendridge with a big smile.
It was great to see you Danny and the rest of my friends,
Keep pounding those pistons with your hair in the winds.
